The agenda for the Talent in Logistics Conference 2018 has been revealed, featuring sessions that tackle the challenges around recruitment, compliance, safety and funding within the transport and logistics industries.

At the conference, which takes place on 21st June 2018 at the Telford International Centre in the West Midlands, delegates will have the opportunity to attend engaging seminars, thought-provoking panel discussions and lively debates. As it provides such a relevant professional development opportunity, members of CILT UK will be awarded 3 hours CPD for attending.

The agenda has been designed to address some of the most important issues facing Transport, Training, HR and Learning and Development Managers, as well as Forklift and LGV driving Instructors. For example, one seminar will cover 'Forklift training myths - when to train, when not to train', exploring and dispelling the common misconceptions about materials handling equipment training which could be costing businesses money, or exposing them to risk.

Another essential session for training professionals 'Managing behaviours in training' provides L&D professionals with the chance to learn more about the reasons behind trainee and employee behaviour, and how to understand communication styles, identify the role of emotions in behaviour, and more.

Safety focused seminars include 'Lift Truck Incidents - Emergency Actions', covering what actions should be taken when a forklift accident occurs, and a Health and Safety Injury Claims seminar from Andrew Hopkin, of national law firm Browne Jacobson, providing practical tips on ensuring compliance and what to expect following a workplace transport accident or during an HSE investigation.

Panel sessions will include a discussion on 'Automation - what training is needed for future logistics?' which explores the potential impact on driver and operator training as automation increases. A Brexit Panel will also consider what leaving the EU will mean for the future of training and recruitment in logistics, and how this will affect regulation.

Another forward-looking session will be a seminar from DVSA 'The Future of Vocational Training', which will discuss the organisation's plans for the future of vocational training and testing. With the future in mind, a debate will also ask 'Can e-learning, simulators and virtual reality find their place in practical driver and operator training?' and consider whether the cost is worth the benefit, as well as how training teams can get the best out of new technologies.

Another lively debate will cover the hot topic: 'Why aren't young people attracted to working in logistics?'. This will give delegates the chance to hear first-hand from young people why they did and didn't choose a career in logistics, with a chance to ask questions and find out how businesses can better attract the next generation of talent.

To address the challenge of securing funding for transport and logistics sector training, a seminar will also teach managers about 'Making a business case for training resource', providing tips on how to successfully plan, put together and present a business case for additional investment in training, and training resource.

Alongside the conference, delegates can visit the Information Zone to meet with experts and suppliers from the transport and logistics industry. They will also have chance to spectate the exciting Grand Finals of the 2018 Forklift Operator of the Year, sponsored by UniCarriers and the Forklift Instructor of the Year. Both competitions will feature trucks completing challenges using equipment from event supporter B&B Attachments.

Visitors to the conference are also encouraged to stay for the evening and attend the Talent in Logistics Awards, the only awards to recognise and reward the people that are essential to the success of the transport, warehousing and logistics sectors in the UK and Ireland.

With a wide range of categories, it is an ideal opportunity to celebrate and recognise valuable talent throughout the supply chain, from forklift apprentices, operators and instructors, to training providers. The full list of categories is available at www.talentinlogistics.co.uk and the Awards are free to enter from 3rd January 2018.

The prestigious Awards will be judged by a panel of industry experts, including Professor Richard Wilding OBE from Cranfield School of Management, and Allan Leibowitz, Editor of Forkliftaction, one of the event's 2018 media partners. Representatives from other event media partners, including Handling & Storage Solutions, SHD Logistics, Factory Equipment, Materials Handling & Logistics, Training Journal, and Warehousing Logistics International, will also be part of the judging panel. The Awards will be presented on the night by a celebrity host following a black-tie champagne reception and meal.
