Konecranes Plc of Hyvinkää, Finland has granted exclusive rights for Strongco Corp to distribute its heavy lifting equipment in nine provinces and one territory of Canada.

Publicly traded Mississauga-based Strongco has gained rights to distribute Konecranes forklifts with lifting capacities ranging between 10 T. and 65 T., empty and laden container handlers with lifting capacities ranging between 8 T. and 46 T. and three main types of reach stackers.

"The addition of Konecranes is consistent with Strongco's strategy to expand our position as a leading equipment dealer representing globally recognised brands," says Bob Dryburgh, Strongco president and chief executive officer. "(Its) respected range of equipment for the intermodal industry is an excellent complement to the lines we represent in our crane business unit and broadens the choices we offer our existing and new customers."

Under the agreement, Strongco will handle Konecranes products in the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador and the territory of Nunavut.

Strongco has about 750 employees and operates 27 branches in Canada and, through Chadwick-BaRoss Inc, five locations in the United States.

Phil Stevens, North America region director for the Konecranes Inc unit in Springfield, Ohio, says, "This partnership offers us a significant platform to supply our products throughout Canada, backed by Strongco's branch network."
