FORKLIFT ACCIDENTS INVOLVED SERIOUS INJURIES LIKE AMPUTATION AS WELL AS DEATH

Despite an impressive variety of technical standards and regulations, each year many workers are killed or injured as a result of forklift accidents.
OSHA (US Occupational Safety and Health Administration) states that annually there are over 90,000 forklifts incidents, with around 100 of those fatalities, many of those preventable with proper safety precautions.

There are numerous reasons for forklift trucks accidents: blind zones, bad sight lines, workers in the wrong location, people wearing hearing protection to cite but a few.
The lack of visibility or the operator's distraction are often the main cause of accidents which can have serious consequences.

HOW CAN WE TACKLE FORKLIFT UNSAFE PRACTICES?

How can we tackle unsafe forklift practices? First, have all workers follow the suggested safety guidelines set forth by safety organization for proper use of forklifts trucks. Second, make every effort to alert workers when a forklift is nearby.
Choices of flashing lights or backup alarm used to be the only real option, now innovative proximity detection systems that alerts workers of impeding collisions add a reliable warning system that was not previously available.

SIS (Safety Improvement System) IS AN INNOVATIVE ACTIVE ANTICOLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM FOR FORKLIFTS

Cy.Pag Srl, a reputed Italian company specialized in the automation industry, designed and patented an innovative active collision avoidance system (SIS - Safety Improvement System) to protect the operator and pedestrians, good being transported as well as considerably decreasing damages to trucks and infrastructures.

SIS.MINI collision avoidance system is an active maneuvering system for forklifts able to detect potential obstacles in the operating range of the vehicle.
The system prevents and avoids the risk of collision during maneuvers and offers the possibility to automatically slow down and block the movement of the vehicle in two critical situations: 1) reverse maneuvering 2) load lifting.

Whenever an imminent collision risk is spotted, visual and acoustic signals warn the operator, the vehicle slows down and blocks, thus dramatically reducing the risk or collision.
The system consists of an ultrasonic sensor, which has been patented, and an advanced display working as a central unit.

The system consists of an ultrasonic sensor, which has been patented, capable of consistently and reliably detecting an object up to 4 meters from the emission point. Side receivers allow to get echoes from lateral obstacles up to 1.5 meters. The combination of central and side sections generates a detecting angle of 180°.
The advanced display may be regarded as the core of the system. It works as a central unit processing incoming signals received from the sensor.
Extremely compact, it can be easily installed in the cab without the need of invasive operation"

For the particular layout of the premises or warehouse organization, as well as for the ones who do not want to activate the slowing down and blocking options, SIS EASY offers a simple and effective warning system.
SIS EASY warns the driver with visual and acoustic alerts. Buzzer sound frequency becomes more intense on approaching the obstacle.

Many accidents occur at crossings and intersections, ends of long passages or in area with blind spots. Some are simply due to unawareness of silent vehicles approaching and pedestrians presence.
For this reason, Cy.Pag is now developing a stand alone system, CYGUARD, positioned on site which detects the movement of forklifts approaching designated meeting points or junctions and alerts pedestrians, as well as other forklift operators, each time they are in dangerous proximity of one another via warning alarms or flashing lights.

In addition to the above mentioned safety systems, Cy.Pag offers Cy.VIEW, high resolution camera equipped with monitor, and Cy.LED, a focused beam of light appearing on the floor thus warning pedestrians of approaching forklift truck.

Having workers as well as safety managers that recognize the dangers involved in working around moving forklifts trucks and know what safety equipment and devices to use to keep themselves safe, can not only prevent injuries and fatalities, but could also contribute to save money in lost production and settlements.

According to a survey carried out by Cy.Pag Sr the installation of SIS collision avoidance system can reduce up to 80% the risk of accidents to people involved in maneuvering operations and up to 90% the risk of material damages to property.
Cy.Pag experienced team of engineers has worked on many projects in a wide range of sectors and environments. An in-depth knowledge as well as technical skills are the foundation of Cy.Pag's smart solutions.
The first step forward developing a smart solution to address the safety challenges facing your company is an in-depth consultation with a Cy.Pag. engineer who will discuss your requirements and application parameters face-to-face, take note of relevant data, and put together a comprehensive overview for our collision avoidance system.
Cy.Pag technical innovation as well as the unique device have been appreciated by end users and operators in several European countries and US.
