Shanghai overtakes Singapore

Shanghai overtook Singapore to become the world's busiest container port in 2010.
According to the Shanghai Municipal Government website, Shanghai handled 29.05 million TEUs last year, 500,000 more than Singapore. Shanghai's cargo throughput rose to about 650 million tons in 2010 to help it claim the leading spot. Government officials attribute the increased throughput to China's economic recovery and the Shanghai World Expo.

Forklift, tow truck involved in propane leak
Rome, GA, United States

Accidental damage to a valve on a large propane tank being moved with a forklift and a tow truck caused an incident in Rome.
The broken valve led to a leak of the potentially volatile material, requiring the evacuation of more than 200 nearby residents for several hours and highly restricted access to the site, largely because of the spread of the three-carbon alkane's gaseous vapours.
Hundreds of gallons of propane seeped from the 1,000 gallon (3,800 litre) tank on the premises of J&J Safety Products, which markets bullet-resistant equipment, largely for the law enforcement community. The tank was being relocated closer to the building.
Police arrested Roger Barton and Robert White on a charge of reckless conduct. Each posted a USD1,350 bond and was released from jail.

Injured forklift operator sues employer over firing
Belleville, IL, United States

Forklift operator Carl Harrison has sued his employer, UTi Integrated Logistics Inc, for improperly terminating him after he tried to file for worker compensation benefits.
In the suit filed in St Clair County Court in Belleville, Harrison maintains that UTi fired him after an on-the-job forklift accident in which he was injured while trying to move a deck plate. Harrison reported injury, received medical attention and then filed a worker compensation claim to recover the expenses.
Mark Schuven, a Belleville attorney, represents Harrison, who resides in Centreville, Illinois and seeks more than USD50,000 in termination and lost-wage damages plus punitive damages.
Locations of UTi Integrated Logistics offer supply chain management, freight transportation and manufacturing support through dozens of locations globally.
Publicly traded parent firm UTi Worldwide Inc is registered in Road Town on Tortola in the British Virgin Islands and had profit of USD101.6 million on sales of USD4.37 billion for the year ended 31 January 2010.
