In a signing ceremony with Saigon Newport officials, Kalmar agrees to deliver ten E-One RTGs to the company's Tan Cang-Cat Lai container terminal |
Saigon Newport Company (SNP) has awarded Kalmar Industries a contract for 10 E-One rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes for its container terminal near Ho Chi Minh City.
The order is estimated to be valued at EUR10 million (USD13.6 million) to EUR15 million (USD20.3 million).
A Kalmar statement said the cranes were headed for SNP's Tan Cang-Cat Lai container terminal, near industrial parks northeast of Ho Chi Minh City. The city generates 80 per cent of Vietnam's import and export business.
In 2006, Tan Cang-Cat Lai terminal handled 1.45 million TEU and is expected to handle 1.7 million TEU in 2007.
SNP operates four cargo handling facilities at the gateway of Ho Chi Minh City and in the heart of the south focal economic area of Vietnam. It handles 68 per cent of cargo in the Ho Chi Minh City area.
SNP's 6+1 wide and 1-over-5 high units will be equipped with Kalmar's Smartpath container position verification system.
Kalmar Smartpath is an automated system that verifies and reports on the location of all containers handled. The system saves time by minimising unladen travel distances and optimising laden travel distances.
