Doosan founder's legacy lives on in medicine, academia
SEOUL, Korea, SouthDoosan Group's charitable arm, the Yonkang foundation, is donating millions of wons to cancer research and school students.
Yonkang will donate KRW1 billion (USD1.07 million) over 10 years to Seoul National University Hospital to support its cancer research program, KRW770 million (USD842,411) to the Yonkang scholarship fund and KRW100 million (USD107,066) in scholarships to Sookmyung Girls' High School.
The foundation was established posthumously in 1978, in accordance with Doosan founder Park Doo-Byung's will. Yonkang was Park's pen name.
Caterpillar donates millions for cleaner cities
PEORIA, IL, United StatesTelehandler manufacturer Caterpillar Inc is donating USD7.5 million to the World Resources Institute's Centre for Transport & the Environment, EMBARQ, to improve air quality in some of the world's busiest cities.
EMBARQ has already eliminated annual emissions of 43,000 tons of carbon dioxide in its Mexico City rapid bus transit corridor project.
