Intralogistics solutions provider, Jungheinrich UK has returned to Sherbourne House, its headquarters in Milton Keynes.

According to the company, the move follows almost three years away from the building, which has since undergone extensive renovations.

“We have transformed the old, inefficient building into something that can support our journey towards net zero,” explains Gareth Clarke, head of safety, health, environment and quality at Jungheinrich UK.

In contrast to the original building, which featured low ceilings and a lack of natural light, the new design includes a first floor lightwell, as well as new skylights and windows on three sides.

Constructed within the original footprint, the building reuses its concrete base slab and steel frame structure, and incorporates technology intended to improve its sustainability.

This includes a solar array with the capacity to produce 253,000kWh of energy per annum, a 50,000L rainwater harvesting tank, and sensors that control the building’s lights and air conditioning system.

Jungheinrich says that, in addition to supporting the sustainability of the business, it wants the office to better support employees.

“A well-designed building brings us closer together. It makes us more collaborative. And it creates an environment that’s better able to support individuals, maximise efficiency and deliver what the business needs,” says Clarke.
