PostNord has been trialling an AI robot systemSupply solutions specialist Körber reports it has spent the last six months running a pilot program of its AI robot VarioPick with Nordic postal service PostNord.
The automated system has been trialled at the Rosersberg bulk mail terminal in Sweden with the objective of doing tasks previously done by manual labour as PostNord looks for improved efficiencies.
Körber says the trial has also been held to investigate how the AI robot could be used to enhance both work environment and employee safety.
PostNord provides postal services in Sweden and Denmark and is a logistics and freight distributor for all Nordic countries.
The VarioPick robotic solution includes an AI-based vision system for accurate item identification and works by singulating parcels and bundles weighing up to 7kg, before placing them precisely on an induction belt. Körber says an integrated container tipper enhances functionality.
