Chinese manufacturer Hangcha New Energy Forklift has signed an agreement with Beijing Nowogen Technology to collaborate on building and operating a 25T solid-state, hydrogen-powered forklift development project.

The project will be based out of Tianjin in northern China with production of the hydrogen-fuelled forklifts slated to begin in H1 2025.

A spokesperson for Hangcha New Energy explains the site will facilitate an integration of technology, research and development to “create a competitive 25T solid-state hydrogen fuel cell forklift”.

Hangcha New Energy says it has produced more than 300 hydrogen fuel cell forklifts which have completed in excess of 120,000 hours of service, in addition to releasing hydrogen-powered AGVs and two tractors.

“Signing this agreement marks a significant milestone for Hangcha Group in advancing technology and expanding the market for heavy-duty forklifts,” the spokesperson says.

The hydrogen-powered forklifts are destined for the domestic Chinese market, with the port and logistics sectors producing strong demand for heavy-duty forklifts.

The spokesperson adds Hangcha New Energy will “also explore international opportunities, focusing on regions seeking green logistics solutions”.

“The partnership between Hangcha Group and Beijing Nowogen Technology represents a powerful collaboration,” the spokesperson continues.

“Combining our expertise in forklift development, manufacturing, and market operations with Nowogen's fuel cell technology will bring transformative change to the heavy-duty forklift sector.

“This strategic collaboration aims to drive the industry toward greener, more efficient solutions and support low-carbon transitions in heavy-duty scenarios like ports and logistics.”
