When it comes to powering equipment, there is no correct answer.
This week, we have three different solutions, starting with a case study indicating the benefits of moving from a diesel fleet to electric machines.
We also hear from Linde, which has approved the use of biofuel - 'diesel' sourced from plant material - for a large number of its ICE machines. This is a unique measure which should help take bio-diesel into the mainstream.
And finally, JCB has come up with a solution for the key challenge for those who wish to adopt hydrogen fuel cell technology. The UK company has unveiled a mobile hydrogen refueller. Many fleet managers have put off even considering fuel cells because of the lack of refuelling infrastructure, and this vehicle is a practical solution for larger fleets. However, refuelling options for single machines are still virtually non-existent, which rules out fuel cells for many potential customers.
