We've had a few safety articles recently, and this week's Safety First column is augmented by a couple of reports of fines imposed on employers who failed to adequately ensure the safety of their employees.
Clearly, businesses have plenty to think about when they mix machines and people, and this week's column identifies some niche requirements that may be overlooked for workers off the ground.
Yes, training is important - even vital. But it's even more important that employers look out for hidden risks and take steps to prevent the unforeseen mishaps.
Rob Vetter this week talks about "the tragic toll" associated with certain types of forklift accidents. It's a toll not only on the company's finances, but also on the welfare of workers and their loved ones - and one we can't ignore.
