Genkinger GmbH offers a complete product range for the safe and efficient handling of cable and rope drums.

The German company is one of the world-wide market leaders for special trucks and machines for transporting cable and rope drums. For many centuries, Genkinger has specialized in the manufacture of individual machines and small series. It has extensive knowledge for many industry branches.

Cable and rope drums are heavy and bulky loads that have to be moved back and forth repeatedly within the production process. Very often the choice falls on a low lift truck to save precious maneuvering space and weight. Unlike a conventional forklift, the pallet truck eliminates the counterweight, saving space and mass.

From 500 kg to 50 tons

Handling equipment for cable and rope reels is available from Genkinger for a wide range of dimensions and weights ranging from 500 kg to 50.000 kg and more.

Depending on the requirements, the load is picked up and transported in various ways. Based on a modular system Genkinger can adjust to suit their customer’s needs. For shunting operations, pedestrian units are the first choice, whereas ride-on units are preferred for travelling long distances.

Good visibility and speedy, safe handling

The majority of cable and rope drum transporters are equipped with radio remote control to make the operator's job easier. When the drum needs to be positioned precisely, the operator can walk around the transporter and, with good view or vision, operate the machine and set down the drum at a point outside the danger zone.

Load flaps as adaptors

If the diameter of the reels varies, it is possible to equip the transporter with load flaps on the prism forks to accommodate smaller diameter drums. Another variant is an adapter-rack with a smaller prism that is picked up by the lift truck. A sensor detects the rack and automatically adjusts the lifting range so that the attachment does not rest on the ground.

A transporter can also serve as a mobile winding machine to save the travel time to a stationary winder. This variant is used, for example, to pick ropes and cables quickly and easily. One vehicle picks up the full spool and a second vehicle with spool drive winds the desired length onto an empty drum (see photo). From there, the commission is then taken to the shipping department without reloading and, if necessary, placed on a pallet there.

Driven shafts in the prism

For further processing, for example to turn the cable end to the needed position, the lift trucks can be equipped with driven shafts in the prism. This makes the work much easier and increases safety, because the heavy cable drum no longer has to be rolled into the correct position on the ground.
