The power of a solid team – a letter from Ann

We are only hours away from another year coming to an end.

Here in Australia, this time also coincides with our summer break: a perfect time to sit back and think about the year that was and to cautiously map out some resolutions for the year to come.

The Forkliftaction team is small - but each person in it very professional, dedicated and connected: connected to Forkliftaction’s mission and keen to make business successful.

At the start of this year, I realised the importance of bringing together this creative team in-person to unite and develop their ideas. So, we contracted the help of Concept Carpentry, a local business, to give our office, a small Queensland-style cottage, a much-needed and long-overdue refurbishment. Worn-out furniture, office partitions and floorcoverings were removed, the walls given a fresh coat of paint, and new lighting as well as functional furniture installed. In April this year, the well-deserved make-over was finished and the team moved in.

As an online business, the Forkliftaction team was already used to performing the lions’ share of their work at home, so they took the restrictions that came with the pandemic in their stride. COVID, in some ways, highlighted our individual working habits and perhaps even enhanced our contributions at that time by giving us an opportunity to reflect and to focus on broadening our professional expertise.

However, when you bring a bunch of very skilled people with multidisciplinary know-how together in one space to work, they will inspire each other, encourage communication of ideas, and generate something bigger than the sum of each of their individual creations.

The new office layout at Forkliftaction is fresh, inviting and conducive to teamwork. The team now meets and works in the office twice a week.

During the past year, we focused on the new website, continuously improving user experience and advertiser success. We established an internal retargeting system while improving responsiveness of our web pages on all devices. We extended options and reach for local advertisers. And we installed a range of new features promoting a better user experience, including our new video system.

As a small team, we try to keep an open mind and flexibly respond to new opportunities when they arise. Especially in recent times where uncertainty on the markets thrives, we need to continuously scrutinise and realign our focal point while never losing sight of the big picture of what we want Forkliftaction to be. We are a small team, but we pack a punch! I feel proud of the strides we’ve taken in 2021 to drive our business forward.

With the end of another year looming, another year pockmarked by the pandemic and by forever-shifting work conditions, a noticeable weariness descended on the air-conditioned office at Forkliftaction. The team did not need much convincing to turn off their computers and phones, and to escape the humidity that descends on Brisbane in the height of summer, for a nice lunch out! It was great to get together and celebrate the year’s achievements, exchange gifts and chat about our plans for the holidays. Here are some pictures taken of our last day of the year together as a team.
