A Palfinger PK 200002 L SH crane proved its stability |
Palfinger has played a key role in getting the Zwolferhorn cable car back in operation.
The tourist attraction, opened in 1957, was rebuilt in just seven months.
Crane operator Wolfgang 'Barli' Niederndorfer had to master a steep, single-lane access road. Then, at an altitude of 1,500 m above sea level and in a very confined space, the task was to put in place the side walls and the 1.6 T roof girders of the new Zwolferhorn mountain station with millimetre precision.
The construction team chose a Palfinger PK 200002 L SH crane which is designed for tight working environments.
The loader crane proved its high stability, its long outreach and unrestricted freedom of movement, Niederndorfer says. To complete the jobs precisely and in the shortest possible time, the rope winch with the synchronised rope control (SRC) comfort function was used.
SRC takes over during crane operation and ensures constant distance between the crane tip and the load during rope lengthening or shortening movements. The system is controlled via the intelligent PALTRONIC brain of the loader crane.
With the construction complete, the new Zwolferhorn cable car is now in operation, ferrying visitors the 910 meters from the bottom station in St. Gilgen to the top station in just 11 minutes.
