Organisers of last month's four-day 'mega-show' in Shanghai, which included CeMAT Asia, report a huge surge in visitors, welcoming 142,975 guests - up 42.1% from 2018.

"The show's figures strongly prove that it is the most high-end industrial business platform in Asia," says Jochen Koeckler, chairman of the managing board, Deutsche Messe AG. "China is standing at a new starting point of the development of intelligent manufacturing, which provides more opportunities and markets for global manufacturers. We believe that this show is the optimum place for global counterparts to better understand the industry in China and expand ... business cooperation."

The massive trade show, titled "Driven to be SMART", included PTC Asia, CeMAT Asia, ComVac Asia, E-PACK TECH Asia, APEX Asia, Cold Chain Asia and Heavy Machinery Asia 2019.

The trade show included more than 3,200 exhibitors from all over the world - and a display area of over 220,000 sqm.

The CeMAT Asia component celebrated its 20th anniversary, and the 85,000 sqm exhibition included displays from SSI Schaefer, Swisslog, TGW, Honeywell, SFA, ABB, FANUC, JD, Siasun, Geek+, Quicktron, HIK, BlueSword and Zhongding Integration. The largest exhibitions space - 3,000 sqm - housed the KION Group and its three major brands: Dematic, Linde and Baoli.

Jens Hardenacke, global SVP and China MD of Dematic, says the joint display provided his company with "access to a lot of quality customers". The KION partners were able to learn more about customers' needs and hear their suggestions first hand, and the show "further deepened our service localisation and technical innovation", he noted.

"CeMAT Asia 2019 has reached our expectations in regards to both the visitors' volume and the effect, ... which we are more than pleased about," says Kaan Guclu, managing director - China of SSI Schaefer. "This exhibition provides not only a platform for Schaefer to showcase the world's advanced logistics technology to Chinese users, but also a bridge to connect and communicate with each other among the industry."

Separately, last week's Istanbul logitrans event also enjoyed visitor growth. More than 15,600 participants attended the three-day event - and the 158 exhibitors represented a 16% increase on the previous edition.

More than half of the exhibitors were foreign, originating from Germany, Italy, Austria, France, Lithuania, Canada and more than a dozen other countries.

"Turkey is a lively hub in the Mediterranean region," notes Gerhard Gerritzen, member of the executive board of Messe München. "The range of exhibitors and the variety of logistics solutions confirm the location as a geostrategic logistics hub of international interest."

The next logitrans will take place in Istanbul from November 11 to 13, 2020.
