The increasing market uptake and rapid technological advancement of Automated Guided Vehicles has been a regular focus in the headlines of recent Forkliftaction News editions.

Here is a roundup of some of the latest coverage:

Alibaba's logistics unit, Cainiao, has just opened a new robotic warehouse, expanded its Internet of Things (IoT) systems and built out its platform's last-mile reach as it prepares for the annual 11.11 Global Shopping Festival.
Hoping to exceed last year's record of less than three days to deliver 100 million parcels, Cainiao's new smart warehouse in the city of Wuxi in Jiangsu Province, with 700 automated guided vehicles (AGVs), will play a crucial role.

Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD has developed a driverless forklift with military contractor Singapore Technologies Engineering, aiming to tap into global demand for the labour-saving equipment.
The AGVs, developed under a partnership BYD signed with ST Engineering, will be marketed in China, South East Asia and elsewhere starting in November.

Depro-Kautetzky from Wenkbach in central Hesse has ordered a comprehensive intralogistics package from Jungheinrich.
The order submitted by the company specialising in logistics services for the food industry includes the construction of a 12-aisle automated warehouse with 10,128 storage locations, as well as five ETX 515a automated guided vehicles (AGVs) from Jungheinrich.

XPO Logistics, a leading global provider of transportation and logistics solutions, has announced plans to deploy 5,000 intelligent robots throughout its logistics sites in North America and Europe. The AGVs will supplement XPO's existing workforce and support future growth. XPO has a strategic partnership with robotics manufacturer GreyOrange that makes XPO the exclusive logistics provider for use of its robots in North America, the United Kingdom and eight European countries.

AGVs, seen by a number of manufacturers as a growth area in materials handling, is set to be the topic of a soon to be published Special Feature Report. The report will feature insights from a number of industry contributors including Linde, Amerden AGV, HELI, Toyota Material Handling Australia, Hangcha, RUYI, Rocla and Zowell.
