The Future Skills Zone, highlighting the careers available to young people in Britain's logistics sector, is also a key part of
IMHX 2016. Featuring leading employers from across the sector, the Zone aims to show the brightest and the best that they don't need to choose university as their route to a good career - and that a vocational route can take them into highly skilled managerial positions.
Part of the Future Skills Zone is the Future Skills Presentation Theatre. Here presentations from young aspiring logisticians will discuss exciting projects, strong career prospects and ideas on why young people should follow a logistics career path.
The program also includes presentations targeted at businesses who are interested in developing their own future workforce. These include information on employer-led education, access to funding and best practice advice.
Anna Chaplin, Transport Solutions Management Trainee at XPO Logistics, will talk about her international logistics project work in Tanzania, futuristic technology introduced to major retailers like Tesco and the critical role of logistics in medical repatriation - returning unwell travelers to their home countries. She will also discuss her career path, her career prospects and take questions.
Ian Nichol, National STEM Development Manager at Career Ready, will run a Business Workshop entitled Think Logistics - Attracting new talent. Here he will argue that logistics is invisible to school leavers and concerns over a skills shortage are echoed across the industry, and that the industry must act now to ensure young people choose a logistics career path in the future.
In this interactive workshop, Ian - alongside a young logistics intern - will discuss the opportunities available to engage with young people via the Think Logistics and Career Ready program. He will also outline what the industry must do to attract young people; the perspective young people have of the logistics industry; and the objectives of the Think Logistics project
Jennifer Swain, JPS Supply Chain at Managing Director, and Alan Duncan, Director at Criona Consulting will be discussing 'Recruiting in logistics - how to bridge that talent gap.' This presentation highlights the key issues when recruiting in supply chain and logistics and how to overcome them. The session includes a case-study to demonstrate what a successful recruitment process should look like.
Three key learning points from the presentation will be: the benefits of strategic versus transactional recruitment; hints and tips on how to improve internal recruitment processes; and how to attract the best talent to your business.
These are just a few of the Future Skills presentations taking place across the four days of the show. For the full program click
