The Manitou Group is partnering with Cologne, Germany-based DEUTZ AG for the French equipment manufacturer's agricultural telehandlers.

Starting in January 2013, Manitou will equip its 6-7 m (20-22 ft.) series telehandlers featuring a multi-function grab bucket with DEUTZ TCD3.6 engines that are specially developed for agricultural equipment.

According to DEUTZ, the water-cooled, four-cylinder 3.6 series engine, with peak capacity ranging from 55.4 to 90 kW at 2,300 rpm-1 rated speed will cut installation costs for customers. It has a compact design and modular system of optional attachments.

The TCD3.6 series engines are equipped with a modular exhaust gas after-treatment system that can be attached to the engine as an option. They come with a charge air cooler and need only an oxidation catalyst to meet the requirements of EU 3B and US EPA Tier 4 interim emission categories.

"In the Manitou Group, we were able to secure a company with a great history as our new European partner in the agricultural equipment segment," says Michael Wellenzohn, chief sales and marketing officer of DEUTZ AG.

Last month, Japanese diesel engine manufacturer Yanmar Co Ltd boosted its partnership with Manitou BF by acquiring 6.26% of the French manufacturer's capital and voting rights for an undisclosed sum (Forkliftaction.com News #640).

Established in 1953, the family-owned Manitou Group, with its brands Manitou, Gehl, Mustang, Edge and Loc, produces telehandlers, rough-terrain forklifts and truck-mounted forklifts as well as aerial work platforms. Its German subsidiary, Manitou Deutschland GmbH, is located in Ober-Mörlen in the state of Hesse.
