Babock Marine, the winner of the FLTA Safe Site 2013 Award, will share on its safety practices at the National Fork Lift Truck Safety Conference.

The Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA) is urging industry leaders to rethink their organisational approach to safety to achieve "true safety excellence".

FLTA chief executive Peter Harvey says while every business' structure is different, safety is often viewed as something management does to or for employees and their organisations.

"While operators must be trained and managers and supervisors must be committed to safety, true safety excellence is only possible when every individual in an organisation is fully aware of the key issues and actively involved in the process of reducing risk.

"Involving everyone ensures that, over time, systems for improving safety will evolve and be driven forward by input at every level. Achieving full participation and complete transparency in all aspects of safety should be part of every company's culture," Harvey explains.

The FLTA's one-day National Fork Lift Truck Safety Conference held at Warwick University on 25 September will include a case study presented by Mark Jackson of Babcock Marine, the winner of the FLTA Safe Site 2013 Award, who will share how the firm brought together over 500 staff to deliver safety improvements, including safety standards created by the forklift drivers responsible for complying with them.

The conference's international panel of experts will share new research findings, case studies and practical advice. Programme highlights include an update on the Approved Code of Practice and Guidance (L117), forklift accident research, the role of supervisors and managers in managing risk, forklift driver training, safety issues in the Italian forklift industry, fleet management, safeguarding staff and loading bay safety.

Held in the Ramphal Building at Warwick University, the conference will start at 10.0am and close by 4.0pm. Tickets for the event cost GBP88.00 inc.
