The RTITB (formerly the Road Transport Industry Training Board) will be included in a documentary to be aired on the BBC that will explore the nature of forklift accidents and how to prevent them.


Lion Television will be at Access House, RTITB's headquarters in Halesfield, Telford, for filming on 12 July.

A RTITB spokeswoman tells Forkliftaction.com News that due to strict guidelines from Lion Television, she is unable to disclose more information on the documentary until after it has gone on air.

An RTITB media statement says: "As an organisation, [we are] always looking for ways to promote the importance of materials handling training and safety. Putting the issues front and centre in this way will be a hugely positive step for the industry and those that work in it."

According to research published by the HSE, the West Midlands and Yorkshire are particular hotspots for forklift incidents, with employers often making the assumption that forklifts are easy to operate and that anybody is capable of performing simple tasks.

With ever-increasing time pressures and stress, operators are often expected to do more with less training, with the net result often being injury or even death.

RTITB is committed to reducing materials handling equipment accidents through standards-based, accredited training and by promoting operational excellence through its bi-annual Operator of the Year competition.
