CeMAT South America attracted many visitors from all over the world.
About 237 exhibitors from 24 countries displayed their products and innovations at CeMAT South America, held at the Centro de Exposições Imigrantes in São Paulo, Brazil last month.

Apart from host nation Brazil, the countries with the most exhibitors were China, Germany, Italy and the USA.

"The South American market offers the intralogistics sector some outstanding opportunities and excellent market potential, and Brazil plays a leading role in this growth," says Wolfgang Pech, senior vice president at Deutsche Messe AG.

"The second CeMAT South America demonstrated that the key players in the international marketplace regard this event as the most important intralogistics show in South America. The strong growth in attendance confirms this exceptional position," he adds.

Attracting 18,236 visitors, the expo registered a 45% increase in attendance compared with 2011. The visitors came from 28 countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Columbia, the USA, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Leading equipment manufacturers that exhibited included Dabo Clark, Hyster, Jungheinrich, Linde, Paletrans, Still, Toyota and Yale.

Brazilian company Paletrans used CeMAT South America as a platform for showcasing its new PR20i, a forklift it says has "improved ergonomic features and optimised electronic control of the hoisting and lowering speeds".

"With our participation, we wanted to demonstrate our national competitiveness," says Paletrans CEO Ivens Menschwerdung. "We were able to strengthen our business ties with countries such as the USA, Germany and Italy."

Fabiano Fagá, sales and marketing manager at Clark, also praised the high calibre of visitors. "We were able to meet business partners from the United States, Columbia and Sweden."

Christian Hocke, managing director of Jungheinrich Lift Truck Ltda, says: "The calibre of the trade visitors was very high again this year and of considerable interest to Jungheinrich. As a result of the sales contracts we concluded at CeMAT, we were able to achieve the same high level of business deals that we recorded (here) two years ago."

Crown Lift Trucks exhibited for the first time to strengthen the position of its brand in the Brazilian market. "We were able to highlight the competitive strengths of our products and welcomed numerous customers from Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico, Peru and Columbia at our stand," said Ron Nascimento, market support manager at Crown South America.

Exide Technologies formed a strategic partnership with the battery manufacturer Comab during the expo. "We are pleased and excited about the partnership, which will enable us to access a very dynamic and growing market where we can offer our products, services and solutions," says Paul Hirt, president of Exide America.

A congress took place in conjunction with the expo from 20-21 March. It was organised by Hannover Fairs Sulamérica in co-operation with Fundação Dom Cabral. Sponsored by Clark and Dematic, the congress focused on the qualification and training of employees in the fields of logistics and supply chain management.

The biennial CeMAT South America in São Paulo, Brazil was launched in 2011. Organised by Hannover Fairs Sulamérica, a subsidiary of Deutsche Messe AG, this year's event ran from 19-22 March. The expo is supported by the German Engineering Federation, which is involved in all CeMAT events held outside Germany, and by the Brazilian Association of Machinery and Equipment Manufacturers.
