The CEO of the United Kingdom Warehousing Association (UKWA) cycled from London to Paris last week to raise money for The Royal British Legion in support of British armed forces.

Roger Williams was one of 300 cyclists on the Pedal to Paris bike ride, which started in London on 30 August and ended at the Arc De Triomphe on 2 September.

This was the Legion's 17th annual Pedal to Paris event and is the only charity ride to be escorted into the French capital by police outriders. The ride culminated in a moving memorial service at the Arc De Triomphe, which was shut for the event. The only other cycling event to receive this honour is the Tour De France.

Nearly 9.5 million serving and ex-Service people and their dependants are eligible for the Legion's support which covers a range of services including grants to those in need, benefits and money advice, employment and retraining support, home adaptations and hospital visits as well as the provision of full nursing care.

Russell Thompson, director of national events and fundraising at the Legion, says: "We spend GBP89 million (USD141 million) each year on our vital welfare work and Roger's efforts will help us considerably in continuing to provide the social, emotional and financial care to the Armed Forces family."
