An induction program, Careers on the Move, is being offered to provide young Tasmanians with a positive experience of the transport and logistics industry.
The program was developed in response to the Tasmanian Demographic Change Council's forecast that for every two people leaving the workforce, only one young person is entering. With the freight task increasing in coming years, there will not be an adequate workforce to meet this increased workload.
Developed by the Tasmanian Transport Association and the Tasmanian Department of Education, the program is aimed at providing young Tasmanians with the opportunity to make an informed choice about the diverse range of transport and logistics career and employment opportunities.
The program aims to attract young people to work in the industry and support the development of the Department of Education's school-based apprenticeship program.
Initial indications are that the program has been an outstanding success with several participants recently commenting that the induction program has been a "life-changing experience" for them.
