The WA Safety Show at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre 7-9 August will provide an opportunity for those in warehouse and forklift management not only to get a close look at the
latest safety technology but also to hear from experts about what the future holds.

The Show will include a number of interactive live demonstrations, free seminars and workshops.

Managers and supervisors will be able to network and learn from industry experts about changes to workplace health and safety laws, and employer responsibilities and employee rights.

The theme this year will be managing risk, with speakers from Norton Rose, the National Safety Council of Australia, Safe Work Australia, Workplace Access & Safety, and other organisations.

Harmonised laws were to become operational on 1 January 2012, but only five state jurisdictions have come to the party. The free seminars and workshops will give firms, especially those operating across state jurisdictions, the opportunity to clear up any confusion about where they stand.

At one of the workshops Carl Sachs, of Workplace Access & Safety, will explain the implications for workplaces and how to prepare for a new era in safe work at heights under the Code of Practice for Managing The Risk Of Falls At Workplaces, to be released soon.

The WA Safety Show, held every two years, is the state's biggest safety event, and close to 170 stand holders are expected to display the latest safety products and services, from protective work wear and workplace compliance systems to forklifts and loading dock equipment.

Take Five

The Tennyson Group will show its Take 5 Safety books, along with an array of other printed safety items including durable signage, safety tags and pre-start checklist books

The Take 5 book allows holders to accurately and promptly report hazards in the workplace and complete a simple risk assessment, while offering safety tips that are simple to follow.

Games for inductions

Perth-based software developer Sentient will demonstrate game technology used to teach people how to work safely by familiarising them with safety procedures before they begin work onsite.

Gaming technology is engaging and realistic. Users must make choices and the results of those choices reinforce the desired behaviours with rewards and progress.

Specsavers is using the WA Safety Show to launch its certified 100% AS/NZS Prescription Safety Eyewear of frames and lenses, to be available across its ANZ network of over 300 stores, while Luxottica Globally, of which OPSM is a retail brand, will display its latest safety glasses.

Drug and alcohol testing is becoming more prevalent in warehouses where forklifts and other machinery are in operation. Pathtech Pty Ltd will showcase its Securetec DrugWipe saliva drug detection devices while Breathalyser Sales and Service will showcase the German made precision breathalyzer, the AlcoQuant 6020 by Honeywell.

SEE Forge says its mobile safety technology is a game changer.
At the stand visitors will be shown how to manage their current reporting processes, such as safety, maintenance and quality on their mobile (iPhone, Android).

A major safety concern is injury to workers by objects falling from elevated work areas including walkways and stairways. BLH Safety Solutions has responded with BLH Stop Drop Safety Barricading, an advanced plastic polymer barricading system that fits on Australian and international standard hand railing and scaffolding.

These are just a sample of the hundreds of products and services to be on show.
