Saxony-Anhalt currently at THE BATTERY SHOW in Detroit/USA Booth B263

Magdeburg/Detroit Batteries are the key to e-mobility. That is why Saxony-Anhalt, a centre of the automotive industry, is currently exhibiting at THE BATTERY SHOW. The trade fair in Detroit/USA brings together the "who's who" of the battery world. Saxony-Anhalt will be represented by the Investment and Marketing Corporation Saxony-Anhalt - The Economic Development Agency of the German Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt.

Saxony-Anhalt is a pioneer in the field of renewable energies and this offers great opportunities for the e-mobility sector. Electricity is the fuel of the future. This has major implications for the business models of companies in a whole range of industries, and opens up great potential for growth and development. E-mobility is top of Saxony-Anhalt's agenda. The state is a pioneer in the e-mobility segment, in particular in research into the intelligent use of batteries for energy storage in electric vehicles.

The state's beacon project is the IKAM Institute of Automotive Expertise. A total of 34.5 million euros are being invested in this applied research centre aimed at enabling local companies to develop automotive technologies to serve the market of the future. By closely linking industry and science, the IKAM is to bring together all phases of the innovation process under one roof: from basic research to the practical application of new findings and industrial research.

Another leading project is "Harz.EE-mobility" which is analysing how renewable energy generated in the region could best be used for electric vehicles, and integrated into the smart grid with monitored input. Saxony-Anhalt's universities and colleges such as the Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg, Martin Luther University in Halle/Saale and the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences are also addressing this topic. The regional "E-mobility and Fuel Cells" (Elektromobilität und Brennstoffzelle) initiative is to get underway this autumn, a further boost for research and applications.

The automotive industry is currently at a threshold. Further battery development to improve storage capacity, service life, loading speed and price are key factors to create sales incentives for battery-powered vehicles.

The latest success in this sector is the arrival of ELLADES GmbH. The Latvian investors found excellent conditions in Magdeburg for working on the development and subsequently the production of battery charging stations.

The focus of the Investment and Marketing Corporation Saxony-Anhalt at THE BATTERY SHOW is on presenting the state of Saxony-Anhalt as an innovative investment location to attract companies to the region and create jobs. Another objective is to expand and strengthen the existing international network of contacts.
