The Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA), a body representing the global lifting industry, has held a Southeast Asia Regional Event.

Taking place in Kuala Lumpur, the event was attended by 70 representatives from around 35 regional companies. According to LEEA, its purpose was to promote the LEEA mission and hear lifting-related issues faced by the attendees.

Opening the event, LEEA’s Southeast Asia regional manager William Ng provided an update on current and future activities within the region, before welcoming guests of honour - Puan Noor Asriah, head of lifting machinery from the Malaysia Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) and Encik Wan Hilemi, head of certification unit at LEEA.

Ng had met with DOSH in December 2024 to explain how LEEA can be a major help towards improving safe lifting in Malaysian industry. In addition to working together on supporting events in lifting safety, LEEA and DOSH Malaysia will assist in the development of a code of practices and skills.

The event also featured a number of guest speakers.

Ben Burgess from William Hackett talked about “Product Specification For Offshore Lifting Applications”, while Stuart Glennie from Kito Crosby talked about “The use of Innovation & Technology within the Lifting & Rigging Industry”.

This was followed by Frank Tan, founder of ISO Group, who discussed “Crane Lifting Planning using Software and Simulation”.

In addition, Matt Barber, LEEA’s director of membership outlined recent association improvements and promoted Global Lifting Awareness Day (GLAD), which takes place on June 12, 2025.
