Jungheinrich AG in Hamburg and Action Medeor in Tönisvorst have signed a co-operation contract for various aid projects.
"We are very pleased to partner with Jungheinrich," says Bernd Pastors, chairman of Action Medeor. "We are now able to help and work even faster and more efficiently with our new trucks and racking."
Jungheinrich will support Action Medeor with intralogistics know-how and warehouse technology. For instance, a bonded store in the pharmaceutical warehouse of the relief organisation in Tönisvorst was recently equipped. This made it possible for Action Medeor to despatch goods to health stations all over the world.
To support Action Medeor financially, Jungheinrich has started the "spare cent" campaign in which employees donate the cents after the decimal point in their pay package every month. Nearly 1,500 employees are a part of the initiative.
"These small amounts help a lot," Pastors says. "Only EUR40 (USD50.70) helps to disinfect 5,000 l (1,320 gal.) of water. And EUR100 (USD127) (can) ensure emergency supply of medication for 100 people."
Hans-Georg Frey, Jungheinrich AG's board chairman, says the company will support the action by doubling the donated amount at the end of every year.
Action Medeor eV was established in 1964 to supply the needy in developing countries with basic drugs and medical equipment. Today, it is the largest European medical aid organisation and works with local partners to supply about 10,000 health stations with pharmaceuticals and medical equipment in 140 countries.
