Jungheinrich AG is investing EUR25 million (USD34 million) into a new corporate headquarters in Hamburg, Germany.

Construction is expected to start this month and the move to the new building is scheduled for the northern spring of 2016.

"The new building is a pledge to our long-standing tradition of being domiciled in Hamburg-Wandsbek," says board chairman Hans-Georg Frey. "About 500 of our employees work here. We will create a modern, attractive working environment for them."

The new headquarters will be built at the company's traditional base at Friedrich-Ebert-Damm 129 in Hamburg-Wandsbek. The former production site and headquarters from 1958 were demolished in 2007.

Head of corporate communications Markus Piazza tells Forkliftaction.com News that Jungheinrich, which had been using a leased office building near the "old" and "new" company site since the northern spring of 2007, had planned to rebuild at the site since the demolition.

The building will have five storeys, occupy a usable floor space of over 18,000 sqm (193,750 sqft.) and comply with the 'Silver Certificate' issued by the German Society for Sustainable Construction. This means it will follow extremely high standards in terms of environmental compatibility and sustainability.

Jungheinrich AG is the general contractor for the construction.

The 14,000 sqm (150,695 sqft.) premises at Friedrich-Ebert-Damm also provide enough room for future building expansions.

The development was designed by Hamburg-based architects Prof. Klaus Sill & Assoziierte.
