Foodbank gets two Jungheinrich forklifts for bushfire assistance

Jungheinrich Australia is doing its bit for the bushfire crisis by assisting Foodbank.

According to Mick Brookhouse, Jungheinrich Australia general manager, Foodbank needed help for its efforts to assist fire-affected communities. "Foodbank advised that there will be an influx of additional stock for their second warehouse in Glendenning," he tells Forkliftaction News.

Foodbank is acting as a conduit for the generosity of the food and grocery sector and the general public which are keen to assist with essential supplies to stricken areas.

To assist the NSW operations of the charity, Jungheinrich is providing two forklifts - an EFG220 and an ETV320, initially on a no-cost six-month lease. This includes all maintenance. "At the end of the six months, we will engage with Foodbank to assess whether their needs for the trucks still exists," Brookhouse says.

"In the next couple of weeks, our activities will increase and these machines will definitely assist us to cope with that," says a Foodbank Australia official.

Brookhouse says the equipment donation stems from a visit he paid to Foodbank in Sydney. "I met with their management and asked if Jungheinrich could be of any assistance. Foodbank provided details of the types and quantity of trucks that they could put to use."

The two loan forklifts will supplement Foodbank's current fleet to make up the shortfall of trucks at this time of heightened activity.

Foodbank is currently assisting drought-affected communities both within and beyond bushfire-devastated regions - in addition to its day-to-day role of providing food relief to around 815,000 'food-insecure' Australians each month.
