One of the team here at Forkliftaction.com pointed out that the now ubiquitous banner ad recently celebrated its 15th birthday. The cornerstone of online advertising had its origins in the US, through the online version of Wired magazine, believed to be the first online publication. Interestingly, the initial proposals were for small text block ads, but advertising executives opted instead for "graphical ad display banners". The ability to link the banners back to advertisers' websites was only discovered by accident. We've obviously come a long way in 15 years and the designers and programmers at Forkliftaction.com are constantly scouring the online publishing world for new ideas and innovations to improve the reader experience and the effectiveness of advertising. So, as they say, watch this space - or at least the banner ads nearby.
