Donald Trump has implemented new tariffsThe month-long mooted tariffs on imports into the US have been formally enacted by President Donald Trump, having come into effect on Tuesday this week.
The change sees a new 25% tariff levied on all imports from Canada and Mexico, with the exception of power from Canada which will incur a 10% tariff.
In a shock to many, Trump had indicated an additional 10% tariff on imports from China on top of existing tariffs, but raised this to 20% “in recognition of the fact that the PRC [People’s Republic of China] has not undertaken adequate steps to alleviate the illicit drug crisis”.
It will take some time for the full impacts of these tariffs to become apparent for the materials handling sector and those businesses which either import into the US or have ambitions of doing so.
