Hardly a week goes by without reports of new lithium-ion battery-powered equipment - and this newsletter is no different.
It's clear that this technology is becoming mainstream in materials handling, just as it is in passenger vehicles.
According to the BBC, General Motors plans to stop selling ICE vehicles by 2035, Audi by 2033, and others are on the same path.
This raises a couple of questions: will there be enough lithium to cope with the increased demand, and what will happen to the mountain of lithium discarded as batteries reach the end of their lifecycle? It is understood that the batteries are hard to recycle - which will be an issue as business gets greener.
Clearly, it's time to start thinking long term, especially if you run a large fleet and need to upgrade in the years ahead.
