Our news this week includes Germany's Hubtex buying a 50% stake in its North American distributor, Design Storage & Handling (DSH).
This deal is part of a growing rationalisation trend which just last week saw Palfinger take over its Iberian distributor, Equipdraulic.
Some would argue that these acquisitions reduce competition in the market, but others stress that the moves strengthen the brand and enhance the offering.
Of course, the bottom line for buyers is whether such actions impact on price, service and support. And, at the same time, what happens to the other brands associated with the dealer/distributor?
The implications of these acquisitions are not always immediately evident, and time will tell how they affect customers.
