A Genie GTH-2506, similar to those ordered by Hewden

UK crane, access and telehandler rental company Hewden has taken delivery of 30 new Genie GTH-2506 compact telehandlers.

The 2.5 T/6 m telehandlers are equipped with the latest Trackunit telematics system, providing the rental company with remote feedback on a range of machine parameters including hours worked and utilisation, in addition to the usual location tracking and geo-fencing.

Hewden chose the Genie model, according to product manager Danny Williams, for its simplicity of operation and robust, compact design which is ideal for work on sites where space is tight. "Another important factor was the advanced telematics that come with the machines. Machine and attachment theft remains a major issue in the industry, so with these new telehandlers we are tackling the issue, and reducing the risk of downtime for our customers," he says.

The Genie order comes on the back of a GBP11.5 million (USD16.5 million) order
of 21 new Tadano all-terrain cranes, ranging from 70 to 220 T, and a GBP2.5 million (USD3.6 million) purchase of JCB skid steers.

The company's roots go back to 1961, when Matthew Goodwin established Hewden (Plant Hire) in the same year that Ronnie Stuart started RG Stuart Plant. In 1968, the two companies merged to form Hewden Stuart, now known as Hewden.
