Teesport Container Terminal has been crippled after 100mph winds blew a USD3.5 million KSR container crane along the quayside and into the terminal's second quayside crane, pushing both off their tracks.
The one-year-old KSR crane suffered considerable damage, and engineers were assessing it, a Tees and Hartlepool Port Authority spokesman told Lloyd's List. The second crane, an older Liebherr, was also damaged but could be back in action this week, the spokesman said.
The terminal was shut down due to strong winds on February 4, and attempts were being made to anchor the cranes when the accident happened. No one was hurt, the spokesman said.
