Fuel Systems Solutions Inc has expanded its forklift business with a new contract to convert Hyundai Heavy Industries Co Ltd's 2.0 litre internal combustion engines to run on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
The engines that are used in Hyundai forklifts have been certified by the Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board. The forklifts will be imported and sold to US customers.
Fuel Systems Solutions will supervise engine conversions performed at Hyundai's original equipment manufacturing facilities in South Korea.
The terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Mariano Costamagna, Fuel Systems Solutions' CEO, says the addition of Hyundai as a customer demonstrates the company's success in leveraging its industry position and technology in the gaseous fuels market.
Fuel Systems Solutions is also introducing a 2008 low emissions fuel system using General Motor's 3.0 litre engine for off-highway industrial applications. It is certified to operate at emissions levels that approach Tier 4 standards that take effect in January 2010.
Fuel Systems Solutions is a holding company comprising of the operating subsidiaries IMPCO Technologies and BRC Gas Equipment. IMPCO designs, manufactures and supplies products and systems enabling internal combustion engines to run on clean burning gaseous fuels. BRC produces systems for converting vehicles to gaseous fuel.
