The Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA) is calling on anyone working with or near forklifts to take advantage of its Safety Week resources available for free on its website throughout September.
Since Tuesday, the FLTA website has featured safety video clips, downloadable posters, and guidance and training DVDs. Other offers include discounted employee safety booklets and joining fees for the associations' Safe User Group.
FLTA CEO David Ellison says, on average, two UK workers are killed by forklifts each September.
"We want to give everybody in the industry the best possible chance of preventing these needless tragedies in their own workplace," Ellison says.
Most of the resources were designed for this year's Safety Week, including six new posters available in A4 print-size, for workers to post in their workplace.
"The Safety Week supplies are a means to an end. We hope that during September, usually the most dangerous month of the year to be around forklifts, we'll actually begin to see a noticeable drop-off in the number of accidents," Ellison says.
The association is encouraging its member companies to host the resources on their own websites, to spread the message to as many people as possible.
The National Fork Lift Safety Week 2000 takes place on 21-27 September in the UK. For information on Safety Week or its resources, visit
