Angela Powell introduces President Biden |
Forklift operator Angela Powell describes introducing President Joe Biden to the stage, as he toured Ford's electric vehicle plant in Dearborn, as the honour of a lifetime.
According to the
Detroit Free Press, the 44-year-old mother of three, who lives in Eastpointe, north of Detroit and hails from Atlanta, has been a forklift operator at Ford's Rouge plant for the last five years.
She was picked to introduce the President, an opportunity she says was "a moment I've never experienced before".
"It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and man, I just feel honoured to be here at the right place at the right time."
During her introduction, Powell touched on Biden's accomplishments during his initial months in office, mentioning his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, stimulus plan and support for workers.
She said Biden is a "president who understands that in order for the future to work for us all, American workers can't be forgotten or left behind in this transition for the future. Future jobs need to be well-paying union jobs with benefits and Joe Biden gets that," she noted.
