Doosan has sold two specialist air cargo LEHF75 slave pallet movers, nicknamed the mule, to German airline Lufthansa. Designed to carry loads up to 7,500kgs, the mule handles 'Unit Load Devices' or ULDs' containers which typically include Certified Aircraft Containers and Pallet or Net Assemblies.

Air cargo presents unique challenges for all airfreight companies, where pallet weight is at a premium, whilst load integrity, safety and security also play crucial roles. Toughness and reliability are essential product characteristics for handling equipment, hence all Doosan air cargo equipment is fabricated from high gauge steel and proven components.

From its manufacturing centre south of Berlin, Doosan Logistics Europe, has developed an expertise in equipment for airside use, with orders totalling over €750,000 in the second half of 2011.

Slave pallets, featuring roller beds for the transportation of the pre-palletised loads, also form part of the new deal, and over 30 units will shortly be going into operation at the Flughafen cargo hub in Frankfurt whilst further orders have already been received for Menzies Aviation in Johannesburg, South Africa, via local dealer Goscor.

"Lufthansa is a very influential user of this type of product across Europe and worldwide," says DLE Managing Director, Wolfgang Dittmer. "We're obviously very excited to be chosen as a supplier and will work closely over the coming months to strengthen and develop greater co-operation together."

As well as its durable design, the LEHF75's power steering, traction battery rollers, 180° turning circle and an ergonomic tiller arm makes it an incredibly useful tool for the air cargo sector.

"You also need a machine that offers the safe and precise positioning of the load unit," says Wolfgang. "It's through our experience and product expertise that we're able to offer a special truck that brings real value to the operation and it's hoped we can further develop our cargo division."

Doosan forklifts are already in operation at a number of other global cargo hubs, including Heathrow, Gatwick, Milan, and Seoul.

DIV, Doosan Industrial Vehicle Co., Ltd., Joined DIP holdings in 2011. Annual output capacity now stands at 35,000 high-quality forklifts in more than 150 different models. DIV has secured unrivalled leadership in the domestic market by improving the cost structure and enhancing product competitiveness.

The company has acquired a strong reputation for delivering simple, powerful products designed for hard working applications. In 2008 it took its first serious steps into the warehouse sector, with the acquisition of the German company, ATL, now Doosan Logistics Europe. DLE will also be on hand to discuss its latest product developments with the airport community at the Inter Airport Exhibition in Munich from 11th to 14th of October this year.
