Italian automation product maker Comau has unveiled the newest solution in its Machine Inspection Recognition Archetypes (MI.RA) family of hardware-agnostic, intelligent vision systems, the MI.RA/OnePicker.

MI.RA/OnePicker is designed to autonomously pick miscellaneous objects from the same bin without relying on CAD-based assistance or prior information about their size, shape, colour or characteristics.

As an all-in-one-system, MI.RA/OnePicker comes with Comau’s Racer-5 Cobot, a six-axis articulated robot that delivers speed, accuracy, repeatability and certified collaboration safety without cages.

Because the compact Cobot can automatically switch from industrial mode to collaborative mode, working at full speeds when human operators are not in the vicinity and at collaborative speeds when they are, productivity remains high and cycle times are reduced.

“MI.RA/OnePicker is a result of our continued efforts to make complex technology more accessible and effective for a diverse range of industries,” says Nicole Clement, chief business unit leader for advanced automation solutions.

“Comau’s dedication to powering automation for companies of all sizes with intelligent robotic solutions now extends to complex piece picking operations in industries such as warehousing and manufacturing, among others.”

Using artificial intelligence, the solution pairs state-of-the-art vision technology with advanced sensors to pick randomly displaced objects after calculating the picking pose in mere seconds.

The compact and lightweight robot vision guidance system is adaptable to any brand of commercial robot, customised bin or customised gripper and can be used for pick-and-place, kitting, sorting, warehouse or e-commerce applications.

It’s the year 2000. You’re in front of a boxy beige desktop waiting for the screeching ramblings of your dial-up to reach its finale. You go to Yahoo!, MSN, or maybe AOL, and start the mind-numbing process of finding your very specific needle in the digital haystack. And with web pages loading one image at a time, patience isn’t just a virtue – it’s a requirement!

As clumsy as this early iteration seems now, this technology was the great enabler that allowed Forkliftaction to connect to the industry across the globe.

To everyone who has connected with Forkliftaction in the past 25 years, thank you for your contribution to our success! We feel deeply touched by your words of encouragement.

Words of support …

These releases in Forkliftaction are a nice experience for SNDC... We got seven inquiries coming from Canada, USA, Mexico, Israel and Australia (five from retailers, two from machines manufacturers) and we are still in contact with them. I can state that's a success story!
