Nearly a dozen members of the Canadian Material Handling and Distribution Society (CMHDS) participated in a tour of Chalifour Canada Ltd's newly relocated distribution centre in Surrey.

Dan Beer, CMHDS president, presented a certificate of appreciation to Grant Harris, Chalifour national logistics manager. Beer is director of sales for Forklift Blackbelt Training Inc in Vancouver, British Columbia and Blaine, Washington.

"Every time we do a tour or breakfast presentation, we donate part of the proceeds of the event on behalf of the tour host or speaker to the Union Gospel Mission to help feed the homeless," says John Gilder, general manager of CMHDS in Richmond, British Columbia. "The certificate acknowledges that donation on their behalf." The non-profit CMHDS serves the logistics industry in the province.

In Surrey, Chalifour Canada has 35 employees including 20 in physical operations, and runs eight propane-powered Hyster counterbalance forklifts, six Crown man-up order pickers, two Raymond reach trucks and one Hyster walkie pallet-jack. Chalifour Canada is the vertical distribution supply chain for Tim-Br Mart Ltd and its extended customers.

A CMHDS tour of the previous Chalifour location was held in October 2013.
