Industry exclusive technology from Cascade Corporation enables higher levels of productivity and reduced cost of operation.PORTLAND, Ore. March, 2014:
Cascade Corporation, the global leader in lift truck attachments, forks and accessories, has announced the release of its industry exclusive Wireless Power & Communication System which utilizes advanced technology to improve overall productivity while reducing product damage and operating costs. Cascade plans to unveil the solution at
Modex 2014 in Atlanta, Ga March 17th - 20th. "Our customers' demand for more efficient material handling solutions customized to address their specific needs has increased exponentially over the past five years", said Kevin Kreiter, Vice President of Engineering and Marketing for
Cascade. "The application of this ground-breaking wireless technology in material handling works to meet that customer demand - both intelligently and economically".
For decades, customers with lift truck attachments requiring electrical accessories have struggled with the maintenance time and costs necessary to keep complex over-the-mast wiring systems functional and damage-free. The replacement of over-the-mast wiring systems with simple remote control and rechargeable batteries held promise. However, the lost productivity and process of changing depleted batteries in addition to the need for spare batteries has limited the success of this technology approach. The introduction of Cascade's Wireless Power & Communication System completely solves both challenges.
"First, by utilizing the system's inductive coils to wirelessly charge the system's lithium-ion batteries when loads are in the carry position, batteries never have to be removed for recharging. This translates to increased productivity, operating cost reductions and an overall cleaner design." Kreiter adds, "Inductive power technology for charging batteries is very beneficial, however the most powerful capability of the system is its integration of transceivers for wireless digital switching and wireless CANbus communication. From simple operator driven inputs, to advanced attachment controls using a variety of sensors, the Wireless Power & Communication System can be custom engineered to meet a variety of customer needs."
Customers are already seeing the value of partnering with
Cascade to integrate this technology into their fleet lift trucks with appliance clamps. Strategically located sensors on the clamp arms automatically detect the size and type of load, then wirelessly controls the appropriate clamp force without any operator interface. The system has been proven to increase productivity and reduce product damage through communication with attachment devices while eliminating costs associated with over-the-mast wiring.
Cascade is committed to continue focusing its R&D resources on customer driven solutions through the use of technology and engineering. The introduction of the Wireless Power & Communication System is evidence to that commitment.
