TVH staff used 1,850 post-it notes to form the words "Job Day" and its date on the windows of the Waregem headquarters. |
Nearly 100 people visited the TVH Waregem headquarters last month to see if they could fill the company's advertised 75 job vacancies.
The forklift parts and accessories supplier says it held the "Job Day" as it was experiencing "spectacular growth" and has employed about 350 new staff this year.
TVH spokeswoman Debbie Manhaeve tells
Forkliftaction.com News that the technical roles in the company are the hardest to fill. "There is actually a combination of high demand and low supply. Many companies need electronic engineers, but not many people have [the appropriate qualification]. This leads to a shortage of electronic engineers in Belgium."
Recruitment advisor Jasper Messely agrees: "These are the specialists that we need the most. This fall, our electronics department will move to new, larger offices and therefore, TVH will need a lot of extra staff."
TVH's electronics department has grown from five people to over 50 in the past few years. The new offices will accommodate over 90 people while a new electronic workshop will meet all current requirements for handling electronic equipment.
"All technicians will work in an 'Electrostatic Protected Area' and five extra multi-functional testers will be available for the engineers to test their electronic parts," says Messely.
To combat the shortfall in talent, the company is starting a recruitment project targeting candidates interested in electronics.
Manhaeve says candidates with basic electronics knowledge may be able to get a job at TVH. "We first test the knowledge of applicants ... Normally, we require the knowledge level of a Bachelor's degree in electronics engineering. If an applicant's knowledge is basic, they can get customised training [from us]."
She adds that TVH is looking for dynamic people who love to solve problems, work in a team, and also independently. "Besides knowledge, it is also important that they are driven and eager to learn. It's also a plus if they're friendly because they have to communicate with people from other departments."
Manhaeve says that not all of the 75 vacancies are for technical roles and some are based outside Waregem. For example, a couple of advertised positions are for the Gullegem plant.
TVH advertised its job day creatively. On the Waregem headquarters' windows fronting the highway, employees used 1,850 post-it notes to form the words "Job Day" and its date. Invitations to the event were also printed on up to 135,000 bread bags distributed in over 200 Belgian bakeries.
Of the 96 people who attended the event, 25 were invited for a second interview.
