Bolzoni Auramo delivered three units of the new third generation "Intelligent" paper roll clamp, CTX G3 to Norske Skog, in Halden, Norway.

Norske Skog paper mill Saugbrugs was founded in 1859, and became a part of Norske Skog in 1989. During the 1990's the Saugbrugs mill invested around 500 millions Euro in the new PM6, a new boiler and a major re-build of the PM5. Norske Skog Saugbrugs is now one of the largest and most modern production units of SC magazine paper in the world.

Together with these large investments they also built up a very modern paper terminal for efficient paper handling for their own production unit in Halden. During 2002 Norske Skog Follum decided to move the shipping of paper rolls from Oslo to Halden, which will become the main terminal for exporting paper.

With this decision today the Halden terminal is handling approx 800,000 tons of paper every year, newsprint from Follum mill and SC from the production in Halden.

The varying paper quality, roll weight and diameter increased the need to change clamping force during loading of ships. To solve this problem Norske Skog decided to invest in 3 units of 3 tons rotating Bolzoni Auramo intelligent clamps CTX-generation 3, installed on H45, H50 and H80 Linde fork lifts, delivered by the Norvegian Linde dealer Hesselberg.

With the investment in intelligent paper roll clamps, life has become significantly easier for the paper handling in Halden terminal. The Bolzoni Auramo CTX is a patented fully automatic clamping force control system for paper roll clamps. It uses optimized, lowest possible clamping force for all situations and paper grades. The system minimizes the possibility of paper roll out-of-roundness.

The Bolzoni Auramo CTX control uses proven technical solutions combined with advanced electronics for controlling and optimizing the paper roll clamp operations. The lift truck operator does not need to pre-select any operation parameters or change the clamping force settings when handling the loads.

From the operator point of view the intelligent clamp operates the same way as any conventional clamp. The lift truck driver has full control of the arm opening and closing functions, and of lifting/lowering the load.

All Bolzoni Auramo CTX clamps share the following operational principles: total clamping force control, minimized clamping force in all handling situations, fast automatic clamping force control also in dynamic situations, full handling control regardless of the roll position, fully computerized control, integrated clamp operation testing and modular design.

With an experience on the intelligent technology of more than ten years, Bolzoni Auramo has introduced the third generation of the CTX clamp, offering an upgraded version for even faster and safer handling operations.
