Flashback: automation testing at Auckland harbour in 2020Auckland Council is seeking an inquiry into the scrapping of plans to automate the city’s port.
According to the NZ Herald, Ports of Auckland is abandoning its automation project after six years of failing to fully implement it, writing off NZD65 million in the process.
The write-off is mainly for automation software and associated technology.
Council has appointed lawyer and infrastructure executive Mark Binns to conduct an independent investigation of the port’s costly container terminal automation program.
