A brand new AC-powered platform stacker and a new AC-powered variant of an existing stand-on stacker model have recently been added to the
Cat Lift Trucks range of warehouse trucks.
The all-new NSV platform stacker comes in six different models, including initial lift and straddle variants with 1.2 and 1.6 tonne lift capacities. Designed for travel distances of 50m or more, the NSV features a folding (standard) or fixed (optional) operator platform with swing-out sideguards and maximum travel speed of 9km/h, as well as a maximum stacking height of 5.4m.
Apart from AC power, key features of the NSV include a programmable electronic controller that can be used to choose between various fixed settings for maximum travel speed, acceleration, lift and lower speeds, and built-in diagnostics to monitor critical truck parameters, including battery status. The unit also features Cat's revolutionary new PoweRamic mast, in which the cylinders are housed in the mast uprights themselves to provide both maximum visibility through the mast and greater protection for critical hydraulic components.
Control is via a new tiller arm that is almost identical to the one introduced recently in Cat's new NPP powered pallet trucks, which incorporates light touch controls and a crossbar to protect the operator's hands at all times.
Optional extras on the NSV include PIN code startup, a lift height indicator and a load weight indicator, as well as a built-in charger that allows the truck to be plugged into any mains outlet for recharging, rather than having to be taken to a dedicated charging area.
Stand-on units offer maximum protection With a maximum speed of up to 8km/h and maximum lift height of 6.5m, meanwhile, Cat Lift Trucks' NSR stand-on unit comes in four different models, all featuring a fully enclosed operator compartment for maximum operator protection and all now with AC power. Capable of lifting 1.2, 1.6 or 2.0 tonnes, the NSR is suited to longer travel distances of around 80m. Features include progressive steering and automatic speed reduction in curves, as well as automatic speed reduction as lift height is increased.
Options include varying fork lengths, a range of masts and side stabilizers. |
Enhancing performance with AC powerThe provision of AC power on both NSV and NSR ranges makes for enhanced performance and reduced maintenance requirements compared to traditional DC motors, both of which contribute to greater uptime for the end user, according to Cat Lift Trucks product manager for stacker trucks.
"Not only is the amount of energy taken out of the battery reduced by the greater efficiency of AC power, increasing the average time between battery charges, but maintenance intervals are roughly double that required for DC motors," he says. "Maintenance itself is also much simpler with AC power - there are no carbon brushes to check and change, for example - all of which means less downtime for end users across the life of the truck."
