Giuffre Bros. Cranes taken delivery of its 5,000th unit, a Terex BT 4792 mounted on a 2017 Freightliner 108SD.
The delivery comes as Frank and Dominic Giuffre celebrate 54 years in business, having started out renting their dump truck for USD12.50 an hour in 1963.
In 2014, Giuffre was honoured as Terex Boom Truck Distributor of the Year for sales and support of the Terex Cranes boom truck line.
"Giuffre has been a distributor partner since 1973," says Dean Barley, vice president and general manager, Terex Cranes Americas. "We are excited to be able to recognise them for this impressive milestone."
Giuffre Bros. Cranes claims to sell to more boom-truck contractors than any company in the United States, attributing its success to hard work, responsiveness to market needs, creative equipment packaging and innovative financing.
Frank started as a dump-truck owner/operator after high school in 1963. When Dominic graduated two years later, he teamed up with his brother to purchase a 5 T crane.
The Giuffres continued to operate their own equipment and add to their fleet, acquiring a dozen miscellaneous pieces - trucks, cranes and excavators - by 1972. Dominic worked in the field and Frank handled administrative tasks. By the early '70s they had begun to recognize how truck-mounted cranes could increase efficiency in the roofing, sign and tree-care industries.
Initially hoping to go into sales, the brothers found that business owners were hesitant to make a large purchase outright. They augmented their business with bare rentals and crane leasing and focused on the roofing industry.
Word spread about truck-mounted cranes customised for roofing contractors that were available for immediate delivery at highly competitive prices, and financing was available with the package.
Giuffre Bros. Cranes has grown over the years, but retains its core focus, embodied by its latest purchase.
