I just bought a Yale forklift, and I need help troubleshooting a no spark condition.
I know I have the Mazda D5 engine, but I am having difficulty finding specifics about the engine and I have been unsuccessful at locating a maintenance manual.
Thus far I have confirmed:
1. Fully charged battery
2. Distributor rotor is rotating
3. General resistance check on the coil (specs unknown, secondary and primary checked to basic specs 1.4ohm and 14k ohm respectively IIRC)
4. 12V at the + side of the coil (currently using a remote trigger to bypass ignition switch)
5. 4v at - size of coil (If I disconnect the lead from the - side of the coil going into the distributor I measure 12v)
#5 seems to be where symptoms start, obviously it shorts to ground somewhere.
Is this distributor a points / condensor setup or is there a module inside the distributor body?
Is the rotor button press fit, or is there a screw or roll pin I am missing?
If I pull the distributor, can I mark it and put everything back together and keep it in time?
Looking at the major parts warehouses, all I can find is the rotor and cap. Without a manual I was reluctant to pull the distributor without knowing if I could simply mark it and get it timed correctly again. Online the distributor costs almost as much as I paid for the lift, so I am reluctant to start forcing anything.
Thanks in advance for the help

Hey Shelby987,
I'm in Blacksburg with the same problem but mine goes a little deeper than just the module. Looks like it will be wiring issues. If you need any other forklift parts I can help you out.
Looks like the module was the source of my lack of spark.
Now I get to dig into the fuel system, rebuilding the carb and replacing the fuel filters.
Thanks for the help and the PN
That model Yale has a module in the distributor. It should ground the neg side of the coil and then open that circuit to make it spark. If you are measuring 4 volts on the negative side of the coil, with the wire attached, then I would say that's the problem. It should measure 0. Part number for the module is 9013578-08. The rotor just pulls off. No need to take the distributor out.
If it is a points setup, with cap and rotor off crank it over and see if the pointsmset opens and closes as it rides on the cam i have seen where they get to where the sont open and just need cleaned and adjusted to proper gap....
Just going to have to remove distributor cap and look at it,im guessing it probably has points and the rotor should just pull off by hand, but is a WAG....pull and see what you find
Model # GP030BDJUAV079
Serial # N459727
Points or module was my conclusion at this point as well, but I was hoping someone could tell me which this unit has, and how to remove the rotor from the distributor (9/10 I have the spare part in my hand, so it is pretty easy to figure out, but in this case I don't), at first glance I did not see any fasteners holding it to the dizzy shaft.
Have a FULL model and serial number of the truck?
Just from what youve posted it sounds like the points or module in the distributor that has the wire going to the coil...sound like bad points/module...will,have to take cap and rotor out to check it,shouldnt be no need to remove whole distributor, you already said rotor is turning when cranking.....if is a points setup is a good posibillity they just need adlusted..not opening/closing
