Discussion:
Why so many attachments.....?....VENT

OK...I know the basic regular attachments are necessary, ie Sideshifters, clamps, push/pulls, etc...I am talking about people trying to finagle their way into our industry with the stupid unsafe ideas for attachments. They approach the customers and convince them they need a product and it always comes back to the manufacture....Current example is a "forklift bumper". That is great, not only do customers need to worry about their drivers bashing into their products, we are going to add an attachment that will free their minds of worrying and they will bash more product than before!!!! idiots

paraphrased example- While also sending in comments from the customer...saying they liked the product.

"Can you get together with ______ and his group of Engineers to see if they approve or disapprove the attachment. He is asking us for our professional opinion. Their customer has asked them to use this, but our customer ___________ has some safety issues and wants our opinion. I am unfamiliar with this particular attachment.
Please advise"

more from customer/dealer:
"We are not under any obligation to use these and if for some reason your engineering department doesn't want to sign off on them, just let me know. If they have no issues with signing off on the installation of these attachments on our forklifts, please get me something in writing."

Guess what....we make forklifts....we are unfamiliar with the stupid attachment too...Want my professional opinion, It is an unsafe piece of crap!! And if you are under no obligation....don't try and add the stupid attachment!

Can you tell I needed to get something off my chest??

Anyone else want to vent??

yeah i did a quick google search and found a company that made them and a whole other range of similar products (in TN is this the same company?)

i dont know what a small larer of foam on the LBR is gonna do to stop damage from freight that weighs thousands of lbs
not much id say

if your operators are driving like maniacs bumpers are not the answer, its barely a band-aid

in addition this company makes work platforms with forks (to simulate an order picker) with no railings or operator fall restraint, not even a plate to protect limbs from the workings of the mast

the rear bumbers are pretty useless too
most rear side strikes with forklifts that damage merch is from turning which these dont protect against
theyre more designed for backing up straight
infact it looks like if you catch one on a turn youd just rip them right off

there was another thread on the forums here about attachments and it got a little silly
the inventor actually started it as a rant that the FL industry was being unfair and wouldnt approve his product for use (factory stamp of approval)

lol it was a ball hitch that hooked up to the tow bar on the back
he
like many others
confused the definition of the term "tow bar"

its for the towing and recovery of the forklift
not for towing trailers

its kinda sad in his case cause he was an engineer who pretty much didnt do any research on the physics of forklifts
and wouldnt grasp the concept that his invention made the truck less stable and more dangerous

here is the link to the thread
forkliftaction DOT com/forum/discussion_1888.htm

i actually started a list of unsafe forklift attachments that people can add lol

you can order my unsafe products at:
1800 6742946(1800-OSHA WHO!!?) lol

our motto at Ted's Forklift Attachment Emporium is - "BUY OUR PRODUCTS BUT DONT COME BACK BOO HOO HOOING WHEN THEY HURT SOMEONE"

also we have a special this week on overhead guard mounted LCD/DVD players - to cure the doldrums of picking pallets all day
lol
