Toyota 7FGU30:
Very odd behavior

I am working on a 7FGU30 Lift Truck with the 4Y ECS engine. It also has SAS and TWC. It cranks fine and then the ignition relay turns off. Someone has wired an override to feed power to the distributor and it will idle but no throttle response with the override activated. Also, there is a piston/crankshaft/arrow red indicator light (governor???) flashing 1, 2, then 11 times. It has a tach output signal and all wires look and test intact. Any leads would be helpful. Thanks in advance! Mike

All, think the light flashing codes is for the Electronic Governor. Does anyone have a code list or and operational or diagnostic info on that module? Thanks! Mike

Well, it only does it in diagnostic mode which is the odd part to me. It doesn't come on when the machine runs that I saw. Just thought maybe it was an indication of ECU condition? Just trying to generate any ideas I can at this point....

I haven't seen a flashing CEL on a forklift before. But I have on a car, which means catalytic converter failure, and can even lead to vehicle catching fire. By chance does the unit idle very hot, or just poorly? Its possible the air fuel ratio is way off, causing 02 sensor to see the abnormality and telling CEL to flash.

Checked the oil pressure switch, normal. Unhooked it and no change. Same with water temp. Wondering why the check engine light flashes constantly when connections jumped instead of flashing codes. Still kinda stumped.

Got ya, I will look at the oil pressure sender. I looked quickly at the wiring and didn't see anything obvious. I looked at the relays and it seems the ECU is shutting off the ignition relay after cranking for a bit. Based on it losing a ground signal from the wire to the ECU.

That is in fact the CEL, but if its not illuminated while engine is running, that's a good sign. If the previously described piston/crank/arrow light IS on, then I would check for oil pressure issue. Also, if the 'override' still doesn't allow acceleration, I would take it off and try to diagnose from there. Keep in mind there are relays under the left step that may be causing issues

The flashing light is the top, furthest to the right light red with outline of an engine. Flashes continuously when the diagnostic is jumped. If this isn't the check engine light could you describe that for me so I can be sure I am looking at the correct thing? Thanks again! Mike

no problem, Is it the check engine light or the light on the top right of the display that continuously flashes? Is it possibly an oil pressure light that you are describing?

Triggs, thanks for the response. Just tried to get codes. When not jumped and running there is no check engine light. When jumped and not running it just constantly flashes. No pauses to indicate a break between numbers just a steady on/off flash.

I would start by checking to see what code the unit has, assuming the check engine light is on. To check, find the 6 pin diag connector and jump the bottom left and bottom middle pins. Check engine light on dash will blink code. There will be a 2 sec pause between codes. 1: afr error (LPG) 2: afr error (gas) 3: vacuum sensor error 4: coolant temp sensor error 5: gas/lpg switching error

Maybe I need to post better/more info? Anything would help gentlemen. Attempting to get some codes out of the machine and check more wiring but really running blind at this point. Please share any ideas you may have. Thanks! Mike
